Estate Planning
Planning for Everyone You Love and Everything You Have
Do you know what would happen legally - to you, your loved ones, your money, and everything else you care about – if something unexpected happened to you?
Suppose you have an estate plan that is out of date. In that case, your assets could go to the Tennessee Department of Unclaimed Property or an unnecessary Court process.
Suppose you don't know exactly what would happen to everyone you love and everything you own. In that case, the first step is to find out exactly what would happen, legally and financially. You can then decide if the current state of your affairs is okay with you.
How Do We Help You With Estate Planning?
We conduct a Life & Legacy Planning Session, where we spend time together, and you'll get informed. Before your Life & Legacy Planning Session, you will complete an Estate Planning Questionnaire. This questionnaire will help clarify what you own and the decisions you need to make to plan for the well-being and care of your loved ones and your assets. If you decide the current state of affairs is unacceptable and we both determine that it's a fit to work together, then we can design an estate plan that will best suit your family's needs.
The foundation of your estate plan will often include a Revocable Living Trust. If so, you will transfer your property into this Trust for your benefit during your life. One primary benefit of a Revocable Living Trust is that your estate plan should help your family avoid the cost and delay of probate and minimize or eliminate estate taxes when done correctly and maintained over time.
For those with more complex needs and situations, we provide advanced estate planning solutions. Some of these situations include asset protection, tax planning, and other considerations.
Can I DIY My Estate Plan?
Unfortunately, most plans don't work because much of what passes for estate planning is little more than word processing. You are asked a few questions, and then the software decides which "plan" is right for you and fits you into a template. This approach is little more than a "find and replace" of your family's name and then a hit of the "print" button to spit out form documents- not true Estate Planning.
Estate Planning for Families with Young Children
